EEB Graduate Student Emmanuel Oduro Takyi Wins Ton Damman award

At the 110th meeting of the Ecological Society of America held in Baltimore, MD, Emmanuel Oduro Takyi, PhD candidate in Carla Staver’s lab won the 2025 Ton Damman award for best student talk in vegetation ecology.
Emmanuel’s presentation, “Fire suppression drives shift in savanna species composition and functional traits at high rainfall” emphasizes how long-term fire suppression could imperil fire-dependent biodiversity and relevant fire-tolerant traits, potentially increasing vulnerability to future fires.
The prestigious award is named after Ton Damman, an ardent ecologist for his dedication to the advancement of vegetation ecology and broader focus on plant ecological issues.
The award is given every year to a graduate student or very recent post-graduate scientist by the Vegetation Section at the annual meeting of the Ecological Society of America.
Congratulations Emmanuel!
