August 14, 2025

At the 33rd Joint Meeting of Ichthyology and Herpetology (JMIH) held in St. Paul, Minnesota, Júlia Laterza Barbosa, PhD candidate in Martha Muñoz’s lab, was honored with the Henry Seibert Award for Best Student Talk in the Morphology & Physiology category for her presentation titled “Arboreality and the evolution of hydrothermal physiology in neotropical frogs.”

This prestigious recognition, named after devoted Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles (SSAR) supporter Henri C. Seibert, celebrates exceptional student contributions in oral presentations across multiple disciplines — including Conservation, Ecology, Evolution & Systematics, and Morphology & Physiology.

Júlia’s award-winning talk sheds light on how life in tree habitats has shaped the evolutionary pathways of thermal regulation in neotropical frogs—drawing attention from peers and judges alike for its insightful integration of morphology and physiology.

Congratulations to Júlia for this outstanding achievement and for advancing our understanding of amphibian evolutionary biology!
