3 EEB Professors Elected to The Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering

Erka Edward - David Post - Paul Turner
February 25, 2020

Congratulations to EEB Professors Erika Edwards, David Post and Paul Turner who have just been elected to The Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering (CASE).  Dr. Edwards was elected for her work in advancing our understanding of adaptation to past climate change through analyses of convergent evolution in plants; charting evolutionary pathways to the independent origins of C4 and CAM photosynthesis; and elucidating adaptations associated with evolutionary shifts from tropical into temperate biomes (toothed leaf margins, deciduous habit) in multiple plant lineages.  Dr. Post for his contributions to ecology and evolution, including fundamental tests of long-standing questions about food web structure and dynamics, the development and application of stable isotopes methods, documenting the role of animals in linking ecosystems, and revealing the importance of interactions between ecology and contemporary evolution.  Dr. Turner for his contributions to the studies of evolutionary genetics and genomics of viruses, including advancements in the use of phage therapy, or the use of bacteria-killing viruses, to combat infections.

The 36 new members will be introduced at the Academy’s 45th Annual Meeting and Dinner on May 26, 2020 at The University of Connecticut.
