A message from EEB Department Chair: Paul Turner

The Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology offers broad undergraduate education in the biological sciences. The subject matter ranges from molecules, to cells, organs, organisms, populations, communities, and ecosystems and the evolutionary processes that shape them. Biology is currently undergoing an explosion of discovery, with implications for the analysis and treatment of human disease, biotechnology, and the capacity to recognize and deal with human impact on the environment.

The Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology jointly offers the undergraduate major in biology (with the Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology) leading toward a B.A. or B.S. degree, and a doctoral program for graduate study in ecology and evolutionary biology.

The major in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology contributes to a liberal education as well as providing excellent preparation for a wide range of professional careers in medicine, public health, the pharmaceutical industry, science writing, teaching, conservation, as well as biological research. Ecology and Evolutionary Biology undergraduates at Yale have a high rate of acceptance at medical and graduate schools, and the vast majority of our graduate students find fulfilling careers in the discipline.
