Fall semester Year 1

Meet with First-Year Entrance Committee

Take EEB 500 -Advanced Topics

Conduct First Lab Rotation (register for EEB 900 1st year Intro Research & Rotations)

Take 1 graduate course, earning ‘H’ grade

Teach first course – typically BIOL 104

Weekly EEB Seminar

Weekly Speak Easy Colloquium

Department Retreat

Register every term for the duration of the degree program


Spring Semester Year 1

Take EEB 500 -Advanced Topics

Take EEB 545- Responsible Conduct of Research

Conduct Second Lab Rotation (register for EEB 901 1st year Intro Research & Rotations)

Take 1 graduate course, earning ‘H’ grade

Teach BIOL 104 (unless you taught it in the fall)

Weekly EEB Seminar

Weekly Speak Easy Colloquium

EEB Graduate Symposium

Register every term for the duration of the degree program


Fall Semester Year 2

Take 1 graduate course, earning ‘H’ grade

Teach a course at TF20 Level

Weekly EEB Seminar

Department Retreat

Register every term for the duration of the degree program (register for CAND 999 Preparing for Advance to Candidacy if not registered for a graduate course for a grade)


Spring Semester Year 2

TA course at TF20 Level

Form Prospectus Committee

Hold Pre-prospectus (before 1 April) (Suggested guidelines for preparing your preprospectus and prospectus)

Weekly EEB Seminar

Weekly Speak Easy Colloquium

EEB Graduate Symposium

Register every term for the duration of the degree program (register for CAND 999 Preparing for Advance to Candidacy if not registered for a graduate course for a grade)


Before the fall semester of Year 3

Hold Prospectus (advance to PhD candidacy)

Submit Prospectus Certification Form
